My DVD player HDMI cable compatible? ?

I got my new 42 "HDTV RCA for over 6-8 months now and I always wondered why it never really seemed HD to me. I recently discovered, I use an HDMI cable to connect from my DVD player to your TV (but I also have a cable box, it can connect to that instead?), so if this is true, this DVD player is compatible with HDMI cables or should I buy a more recently released DVD player? (:
A DVD player and can not release a HD signal not What I care about up-conversion is done to it. It will never be an HD signal. HDMI cables will pass any resolution that you are sending through it Hi-Def or Standard Def.
