What is the difference between upscaled DVD and Blu-Ray DVD players?
I want my dvd high level and want to know if the Blu-Ray has something more in a regular high-level player.
The most important thing to remember is that all DVDs have only 480 lines interlaced to create the image and no amount of scaling or upconverting virgin sacrifices will ever change that. Some upscaling DVD players do a good job of "clean" image on a non-upconverting normal player, but the record still has only 480 interlaced lines. Blu-ray discs have scanned 1080-line progressive to create a picture in order to obtain between 5-7 times more resolution and image quality is much better than a standard "upconverted" DVD. Now, if you get a Blu-ray player and connect via HDMI, Blu-ray will also "Upconvert" standard DVD but will still only 480th scan lines, but also have the ability to play Blu-ray movies. If your going to buy a player upcoverting, I would suggest you check Internet brand Oppo players. A head to head against players costing thousands of laboratory tests, Oppo players beat them hands down, including cadence, 3:2 pull down conversion and image quality. Oppo players can be had for around 150.00 If you want to be future-proof, spend more than 150.00 Oppo and get a PS3, which is currently ranked as the best Blu-ray player and can be easily "upgraded" path Internet.
