Do you really need an ATSC tuner built with a VCR DVD combo player /?
I have an HDTV, but now im planning to buy a VCR / DVD player combo to go with my old CRT TV so because I do not need an HDTV in my room, I just need to watch old tapes and DVDs on a regular … I have cable TV so I do not think that free to air channel would be a problem when switching to digital officer in early 2009, I do not think I really need to have an ATSC tuner built with the player, then?
You do not need an ATSC tuner for digital cable, you would need a tuner QAM (sometimes called 8VSB). Its a chance to weather or not cable companies transmit analog signals through cable or digital. You may decide to charge you an extra $ 10 to rent their box to decode digital to analog. If you have money to spare, my opinion would be to get the digital tuner. ATSC is for over the air only digital, not cable.
