Portable DVD upconversion?
Is there really a clear diffrence between 1080i and 1080p. Im in the market for a DVD player that can record all my programs preferred by a satellite receiver. I was considering the sony, but I heard theyre copy protection is too sensitive so I would have problems to record from HBO or any satellite channel? this is true. My hd tv is a set capable of 1920 x 1080 progressive scan … help.
There will be a difference between 1080i and 1080p – the picture seems more crisp and detailed. However, the only true 1080p sources right now are HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 gaming console only do 720p and 1080i for the majority of their games. As for your other question, the current DVD recorders – DVD as themselves – are only able to record up to 480p. This is NOT an HD signal. If you try to feed a HD signal from satellite receiver to a DVD recorder, you will see the widescreen taken "crushed" in 4:3. Alternatively, you can change the display mode of the satellite receiver so that the aspect ratio is correct, but the image will be cropped (basically, What "pan & scan" is the movie clip.) currently the only device able to record a true HD and play back a HD-DVR. This includes Tivo Series 3, as well as satellite providers HD-DVR. To record HD on a disc, we have to wait for the Blu-Ray or HD-DVD based recorders to appear on the market – is probably another 1-3 years away. What we currently have Dish HD-DVR and record shows in HD. Some of these are then registered with our DVD recorder for my parents or inlaws. It works fine. As long as the DVR can play the DVD-recorder can record it. There were no problems with copy protection. I do not think DVD-recorder to pay attention to "No record" broadcast flag that some cable television stations are starting to wear. However, I'm pretty sure HD disc recorders will pay attention these flags, so be sure to buy a player correct "broken".
